I'm sure it will work as long as you get people who work for $5 / hour.
Theres a reason why stuff is made in China and Mexico

Anywho...bunch of fucking crybabies didnt have any issues picking up and leaving the USA when the tariffs were lifted and they could set up shop in shithole countries for cheap labor. But now the tarriffs are back in place they whine and cry. THey fucking did it to themselves. They lobbied to get the tarriffs taken away and now they lost. They got greedy!
Also, the parts suck!!! Almost as bad as made in China!

Antique dealer, pet transportation, coffee vendor. I also do the gig stuff when im in wealthy areas of the country, like instacart and ubereats, making about $100/hr.Over the winter i built out a sprinter van to travel full time and work on the road. Oh, i also sell ice cream on the beach. Im also a licensed guide for hiking and camping, a business I started and put on hold for the past couple of years while Ive been living in south carolina.
Over the winter Ive done a couple farmhouse and barn cleanouts and shopping at goodwills with my girlfriend while selling stuff I find. Just sold a $600 knife set I bought for $7 at goodwill.
Used to be a contractor, moved into cleanouts and selling antiques at weeklong outdoor venues, and nyc and boston flea markets. Last year i made about $10k on ebay selling my old inventory of cameras.
In my 20s I had about 10 vending machines going, a landscaping company, property managment company, oh and I used to grow indoor weed. Oh yeah, i used to repair and sell appliances, like fridges washing machiens and dryers. Also tried to start a biodesiel manufacturing compnay around 08, bad timing. I got into electronic recycling for a little while when scrap was high, about 2010. Fuck, made about 60k selling scrap metal.

So you do a bit of everything but probably nothing really well, I also assume you don't do any of it as part of a legal business..... You are an opportunist, living of other people's rubbish or serving them (I don't mean this in any condescending way, just stating the facts).
And you think your president works for you, well, of course you would.

Yeah, take something like consumer electronics. TV's, phones, PC's and tablets. Mostly all produced in Asia. If Trump wont back off with the Asian tariffs, it will be quite expensive for your average US citizens.
You think the US is going to replace all those industries in a matter of few years? Get back to me when you have your "made in USA" TV or phone.

Iphones are made for around $5. All these companies mark up and reap the benifits. So now they will have to do with less profit. Stop being so dramatic. Why is it ok for every other country to impose tarrifs but throw a fit when we do it? Stay in your lane. Mind your own country.

Oh, I'm sorry for questioning Trumps (and therefore your logic). Not trying to be dramatic, just realistic.
Just like when you state that an iPhone are made for $5, I call bullshit and ask for a source.
And about the tariffs other countries impose on the US, I've been looking into those.
For example Taiwan, Trumps chart show that they have 64% tariffs for US. I can't find those kind of numbers anywhere. The average is in the single digits.
When I Google about the tariffs and what they are in reality I get this:
The Cato Institute said the 2023 trade-weighted average tariff rate from China was 3%, not the 67% the administration said it was.
The administration said the European Union charges the U.S. a tariff of 39%, but the Cato report said the EU’s 2023 trade-weighted average tariff rate was 2.7%.
In another example, the administration said India imposes a 52% tariff on the U.S., but Cato found that India’s 2023 trade-weighted average tariff rate was 12%.
Can you tell me where Trump gets those crazy numbers? Or you just rolling with it, since it's Trump's chart?

My bad, it was the cost of labor that was $5 to make the iphone.
The Trump Administration got the tariff numbers using a formula.
Reciprocal Tariff Calculations
Executive Summary
Reciprocal tariffs are calculated as the tariff rate necessary to balance bilateral trade deficits between the U.S. and each of our trading partners. This calculation assumes that persistent trade deficits are due to a combination of tariff and non-tariff factors that prevent trade from balancing. Tariffs work through direct reductions of imports.
Reciprocal tariff rates range from 0 percent to 99 percent, with unweighted and import-weighted averages of 20 percent and 41 percent.
Trump said the US will do the same as other countries are doing to them. Very simple....but he is lying again.
The tariffs aren't reciprocal. They made up a BS formula based on the amount of trade between US and said countries to calculate tariff. Basically if you sell more to the US than you buy you will be hit with high tariffs. HEnce Taiwan get 64% and China 67%.
Also something fun I found. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if it were true.
Sounds good to me. Whats the problem? Sounds good for the USA.
huh...one side of me says using ai to calculate this is a smart thing to do, using the best tool for the job, on the other hand, growing up watching sci fi movies has my instincts telling me I dont want to be at war with terminators.

Why do I even try? If you can't think for your self, then you can't.
Simply gloss over the fact that the US can't switch to making everything domestically in a few years(maybe not ever because labor is cheap in China and Mexico), or that Trump lies how the tariffs would work.
You even cheer on rumors about using a simplistic AI models for world economics.

Oh, im sorry for having an opinion on using ai. Guess I shouldnt have had a thought on that, I just need to fall in line with whatever you tell me to think, right?
Anyways, did I ever say tariffs are bad before Trump, but now say they are good? I grew up in the 90s when I remember every adult around me bitching and complaining that factories were moving out of the USA. Know why that happened??? Free trade and reduced tariffs. So now they are being implemented again and Im supposed to say they are bad, why? Becuase Trump did it? Fuck off.
So...what country are you from? Canada? You seem awfully upset about Trump putting America first. Whats your motive for trying so hard to convince me what Trump is doing is bad.

Well if you didn't know, AI isn't at the point of some super intelligence yet. I mean it's a great tool for many things, but it also quite dumb alot of the time. If you've ever used it for some kind of problem solving you should know EVERYTHING it says has to be taken with a bucket of salt. Should be common sense not to make global economic decision based on that, but what do I know.
I'm not saying you can't be for the tariffs, you just need to explain how they make sense. Thats what I've been trying to ask you.
For example, how is the US going to replace huge electronics industries over night? And even if they could, how much more will it cost? Cheap good are a good thing for the economy because EVERYONE can afford them. Not just the well off.
I live in Finland (so that would be in the EU). Free trade here among the European union.
For the company I work for this is good for business. We can sell the "cheap" Chinese stuff domestically and to other European countries. There no tariffs and no paperwork. Would never ever work if the products we sell would be made domestically. Would be a pretty dramatic price increase. Nobody would be able afford them except the wealthy. Not to mention if there were tariffs among EU countries, it would make it even worse.

Its Idiocracy levels, people are so dumb here they shop for fun and are addicted to it. We can do with less, WAY less.
The USA used to manufacture everything. Every rust belt city is filled with old empty manufacturing buildings. Now, Im not saying we should be going back to that, Im saying it affected us a differently than say Finland.
USA has been getting the short end of the stick in regards to trade for many years, probably since the 80s. Many factors went into this, probably has to do with the Federal Reserve and the military industrial complex more than anything, but I digress. What Trump did is the best for America. Many countries have protectionist trade agreements, we dont. So now we will.

The US isn't alone in this. China is the worlds factory and has grabbed many industries. Thats just the way it is when you have cheap labor and huge resources. We used to make phones in Finland. Remember Nokia? Would make absolutely no sense these days.
The bottom line is people will vote with their wallets, not whats good for the economy / country. Imagine the rest of the world keeps buying cheap chinese stuff while the US tries to live in their "made in America" dream with expensive good. Not gonna work. In some industries sure, but not with everything.
Also this fixation Trump has with the trade deficit. He keeps on whining about it like it is automatically bad for the US. Bobbob posted a great video about this. A rich country will always buy more and that doesn't mean the economy is going the shit, Don't know if Trump understands this or he just want to sell it like this to his followers.
