Cop bugs the fuck out. A simple, "sorry to waste your time, sir, I've never encountered this before, have a nice trip" would have been the only respectable thing to do. Why are big ego's such a prevalent thing with police?

If I had to guess, it's related to the limited amount of power they are granted in order to do their job.  I was very idealistic about what a COP was when I entered the field and was a little shocked at how quickly the people I worked with were willing to act like total assholes when shit wasn't going EXACTLY how they wanted.

I also found that the prevailing belief among COPS is that, because of their limited powers, they exist to preside OVER the citizenry.  Whereas I never gave up my idealistic view that I was being paid to SERVE the citizenry.

In a way I was waiting for your response, curious as to what your approach would be.  Your attitude as a cop I've found to be extremely rare in large cities and in the country side a little less so. Of course, it always depends on the situation.  At one point as a kid, I thought I wanted to be a cop ( i really liked the idea of swat at the time) and did ride alongs.  The cops scared the shit out of me because the vast majority went from 0 - 10 in intensity over simple traffic stops. A car didn't pull over within 5 seconds of the light going on "oh that motherfucker better stop now or he's fucked" and the like.

I have friends and family that do it for a living and noticed a political and personality change as well. Neither being military beforehand.  It might sound stupid (I'm a caucasian spider) but I've trained my kids how to behave for police encounters.

I assume you're no longer on the force, why did you quit?

No, I am not.  When you work for corrupt administrators [after many conversations with guys who worked at other departments I became convinced that most administrators everywhere are corrupt] and they realize you're not going to "play ball" [lie when others fuckup] they have ways of making your job very difficult.  That was part of it, though I was willing to put up with it since they can't OPENLY dog you for having integrity.

The MAIN reason I left was money.  Unless you work for a major city and have your nose up the ass of the right people, you'll constantly be stretched thin, especially if you have kids.  My wife, thankfully, convinced my to go back and get an associates in IT, since I was doing that for the little department I worked at anyways for fun.

My advisor told me that people skilled in computer networking and network management were in high demand in my area.  When I finally interviewed with a regional, federally funded early childhood education program I was told later by my boss that I blew my competition away, even though they also had degrees.

So I've been an IT Specialist for about a year and five months now.  We have 15 schools spread all over northwest Tennessee.  I'm on a salary, which is REALLY nice.  The hours are flexable, as in if I need to leave early or come in late it's no big deal, so long as everything is running fine.  My boss and the IT Tech whose been there for 15 years are awesome.  They're both gun guys like me and we make regular trips to the gun range.  Everything is just 10x better doing what I do now.  To hell with being a COP.  I look at COPs more now as glorified janitors who get called to clean up other people's shit.  It may be a noble profession, but the idea that all COPs are hero's just because they wear a uniform is bullshit.

Ignorant people aren't that much of a problem.

Arrogant ignorant people who don't want to learn are worse.

But this is nothing compared to how they can be if you put them in a position of power.
