Here the thing, there is no law prohibiting recording a courtroom. The judge issues a decree prohibiting recording and the only basis for that decree is that judges are charged with the task of making sure court proceedings can be done without interruptions. Anyone can ask to record and the granting of permission is arbitrary and capricious. It is a constitutional grey area and was only allowed because when the SCOTUS decided the case it was back when cameras had reels and were loud and obtrusive. Most of the time it is simply to control the recordings and keep recorders and transcribers employed. If you are not distracting anyone and simply standing in the back quietly recording we should be allowed to record all we want as courts are supposed to be public! Defendants are not even allowed to record their own fucking trial, they have to purchase transcriptions from the court employees that could cost thousands. Every word uttered in a court room can be used and the only way to check what was said and to be able to use it is to buy the fucking transcripts, which is bullshit. SO fuck anyone who thinks this is OK!
