Kill is dutch for river.... no actualy river in Dutch is rivier

modern dutch yes, but according to the dictionary in middle dutch 'kille' meant a creek or sea inlet. hence the catskill, peekskill etc. some place names in the netherlands also use it, such as sluiskil.

language tends to change over time, and these places were named hundreds of years ago.
