I intend to but maybe not for quite that long, depends how things go. St Petersberg is amazing apparently. Also I've heard good things about Grozny & wanna take the Siberian Express as a bucket list thing. Of course Moscow is on the list too. Gotta visit Red Square & some other iconic sites.

it's hard to say. Obviously in April 2022 it's more likely there would be less but even that's not assured. Ukraine had been building up forces in Donbass region since March 2021 & was likely to pull the trigger soon anyway. Russia likely wouldn't stand back if Kyiv really pushed hard into Donbass.

firstly, Ukriine was effectively a de facto NATO member already.
NATO had moved in there since at least 2015 & was arming, training & financing them for 7 years.
It was France, Canada, UK and US doing this.
in 2021 NATO held extensive naval drills with Ukraine in the Black Sea.
Russia's been asking since 2008 that Ukraine not become part of NATO and made it crystal clear that this was a red line with them.
I could go on & on but I think that should be enough to make it clear that your talking point is horseshit.
There was also the Minsk accords that Kyiv was unable or unwilling to adhere to, despite signing them. France & Germany were also gaurantors to the Minsk agreement. When Russia was asking them for years to press Kyiv harder to end the hostilities in Donbass & implement Minsk they were unable to get anywhere. So you say the NATO membership wasn't gonna happen but what assurance did Russia have on this? Another gentleman's handshake like the one Gorbachev made in 1991 where he was assured NATO wouldn't expand "one inch" to the East if USSR disbanded the Warsaw Pact (the entire reason for NATO's existence)?
What if Ukraine did become a formal part of NATO and then decided to attack Crimea. Once they did that they could in theory trigger Article 5 and then there would be war between 2 nuclear powers - NATO and Russia. Is that something worth risking with people who can't be trusted (US and its newly overthrown client state Ukriane)?
