Los Angeles, California -- On July 27, 2018, around 10:15 p.m., uniformed officers assigned to Mission Patrol Division conducted an investigative vehicle stop in the 9000 block of Noble Avenue. The subject of the stop was later identified as Richard Mendoza. The officers approached Mendoza, who was the driver and sole occupant of his vehicle. Upon making contact, the officers verbally confirmed Mendoza was still on Federal Probation and requested he step out of the vehicle. When he did so, Mendoza produced a semiautomatic pistol and, without warning, began firing rounds at the officers, resulting in an Officer Involved Shooting. One officer was struck by one of the rounds fired by Mendoza. She received medical care at scene by Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) personnel and was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound and is listed in stable condition. Mendoza was struck by gunfire. LAFD Rescue Ambulance transported Mendoza to a local hospital where he was treated for wounds and later pronounced dead. Officers located and recovered a .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol from the scene. Police have not released other details about why Mendoza was stopped, only saying he’s a documented gang member with prior convictions for narcotics sales and possession of a firearm by a felon. Over the next several months, LAPD will continue to investigate the use of force in the incident. Findings will be presented to the Board of Police Commissioners while representatives with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and Office of the Inspector General will also monitor the investigation.

A few things to open up the discussion.
1) Women should not be beat cops. Fuck femism, women are not capable of effective fighting stronger violent men. Had this woman been solo she would be dead and this guy would be fleeing to Mexico.
2) Her partner was fucking awesome on the draw and that head shot is one for the ages.
3) The best part of the video is when the male cop comes around the back of the suspect vehicle and puts another round in his dying ass for good measure knowing nobody is going to say shit since the guy just attempted a double murder and failed.

I agree with 2 and 3 (Initially I was struggling a little bit but now I think about it as a "safety first" shot as his partner was disabled and injured).
It is also nice to see a well trained officer.
1. is a general statement that I don't think can stand as it is.
There should be physical and intellectual requirements to become a police officer in combination with a solid training regime, anyone who masters this process may be a cop those who don't can't. For different jobs the requirements and training may vary. It is really that simple. There are women that easily equal or outperform men physically, however, by definition these are few and far between. So there will be more male than female cops applying these rules, this is not discrimination, quite the contrary, saying women should not become cops, however, is.
Looking at the number of unfit male cops we see in the US the distribution may be more in favour of females than it is in other countries but I don't think there is a statistic for this.
What you definitely don't want (neither as a member of the public nor as a male cop) is the system they apply in Germany where the physical requirements to become an officer are LESS for female applicants than they are for males. This actually IS discrimination at the workplace.

I can understand falling back after being hit in the leg, at the very least make herself a harder target but for Christ sake she just screamed and didn't even bother to draw her weapon.
There are other roles besides beat cop that woman would be just as well doing as men like being a special investigator.

You set a universal bar, and anyone who passes can be a beat cop. If you think someone unfit will get through, then you change the bar so they don't.

You don't see it do you? There are no women stronger than their male counterparts. On the issue of standards, this is why the US military has lower PT standards for women. There should be standards for MINIMUM physical, mental and intellectual requirements to be met to become a beat police officer (or fireman, or soldier, or CSI investigator etc.). And may I quote myself: "For different jobs the requirements and training may vary."
Whoever surpasses those defined for beat officers and receives the proper training should be fit to be a beat police officer (male, female, transgender, gay, straight, who fucking cares).
Automatically jobs like police officer or fireman will be male dominated (if we don't follow the geran example), there will be persons that are good or bad at their job and there even will be women that are better at it than men.

You (deliberately?) misread my comment once again or you're so blinkered by your "women are useless at this" attitude or you do not understand what a "minimum standard" is.
SO AGAIN: Gender is irrelevant. The minimum standards need to be set at a level that the person is ABLE TO DO THE JOB (not set low enough to be able to fulfill quotas). The standards MUST NOT be adjusted down for this, like they do in Germany, so it is NOT UNFAIR TO ANYBODY*. If 80% (or 100%) of women applying fail, SO FUCKING BE IT. At the moment there does not appear to be any standard in the US, though.
What you will have, though, once you start applying certain standards is that many, if not most, of the cops we see on here would horribly fail the tests too.
I don't think in other western countries uniforms with such enormous waist sizes like in the US for beat officers actually exist.

Looks like the suspect spun around on the second officer and fired before aiming. The second officer drew his gun and aimed before firing. That was like a classic high noon shootout done at a distance of two paces - "I'll start with my back turned but my gun drawn, and you start facing forward with your gun holstered and no prior warning." The suspect was clearly too high strung, and the strain was simply more than he could bear:
