China National anthem Chinese & English lyrics

The red of the Chinese flag symbolizes the communist revolution, and it's also the traditional color of the people. The large gold star represents communism, while the four smaller stars represent the social classes of the people. In addition, the five stars together reflect the importance placed on the number five in Chinese thought and history.

America

The stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.

Canada

The flag colors are meant to symbolize hope and prosperity, as well as peace, tranquility and neutrality. The maple leaf design represents the cultural heritage of the nation and the natural resources of Canada.

UK

The flag combines aspects of three older national flags: the red cross of St George for the Kingdom of England, the white saltire of St Andrew for Scotland (which two were united in the first Union Flag), and the red saltire of St Patrick to represent Ireland.

Australia

The Union Jack in the upper left corner represents the history of British settlement.

Below the Union Jack is a white Commonwealth, or Federation, star. It has seven points representing the unity of the six states and the territories of the Commonwealth of Australia. The star is also featured on the Commonwealth Coat of Arms.

The Southern Cross is shown on the flag in white. It is a constellation of five stars that can only be seen from the southern hemisphere and is a reminder of Australia’s geography.

Belgium

Black, gold and red are symbolic of the country's coat of arms; black representing the shield; gold representing the lion, and red representing the lion's claws and tongue.

New Zealand (English is in 2nd half)

Like Australia's flag but with 4 red 5-pointed stars just for the Southern Cross. Aotearoa is the Maori name for NZ, both versions (English & Maori) are official versions & most people think the Maori version sounds better.

Russia

While there is no official ruling on what the flag is designed to represent, there is a popular consensus among Russia’s people. It is believed by many that the color white stands for frankness and nobility. Russians believe that the blue stands for many things, including faithfulness, chastity and honesty. The red is believed to represent love, courage and generosity.

Iran

The colors of the flag date to the mid-18th century; green represents Islam; white represents peace, and red means courage. The centered symbol is said to symbolize the five principles of Islam.

Afghanistan

The black symbolizes the dark, troubled past of the nation. The green represents both Islam and prosperity, while the red representsthe blood shed by those who fought for the country's independence.

Germany

The colors of the flag of Germany somewhat resemble the colors used in the Roman Empire, which were just black and gold. Germans associate the colors of the modern flag with freedom and unity since they were adopted by the first attempt in the united German republic. In the Weimar Republic, following the First World War, the colors black, red, and gold represented the colors of the centrist, republican and democratic political parties. which had formed a coalition to avoid ascension to power by war-mongering or pacifist extremists.

Tell me if your country isn't listed & I'll add it

Normally this stuff is really boring but anthem lyrics + song style & flags give an idea of the core values of nations, that makes them kinda interesting IMO.

You forgot the german national anthem:

Lied der Deutschen

  1. Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
    Über alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
    Brüderlich zusammenhält,
Von der Maas bis an die Memel,
Von der Etsch bis an den Belt -
    Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
    Über alles in der Welt!

  2. Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
    Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang
    Sollen in der Welt behalten
    Ihren alten schönen Klang,
    Uns zu edler Tat begeistern
    Unser ganzes Leben lang -
    Deutsche Frauen, deutsche Treue,
    Deutscher Wein und deutscher Sang!

  3. Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
    Für das deutsche Vaterland!
    Danach laßt uns alle streben
    Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!

    Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
    Sind des Glückes Unterpfand -
    Blüh` im Glanze dieses Glückes,
    Blühe, deutsches Vaterland!

Only the 3. verse is the national anthem. The first verse was in Nazi Germany. In contrary to common belief it is not forbidden to sing the first or second verse. Heino was heavily criticised for doing that (see below).

It is a poem by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798-1874) the melody is by Haydn

Song of the Germans

1.

Germany, Germany above all,
About everything in the world,
When there's always protection and support
brotherly together,
From the Meuse to the Memel,
From the Adige to the Belt -
Germany, Germany above all,
About everything in the world!

2.

German women, German loyalty,
German wine and German song
To be kept in the world
Your old beautiful sound,
To inspire us to noble deed
All our lives -
German women, German loyalty,
German wine and German song!

3.

Unity and Justice and Freedom
For the German fatherland!
Let us all strive for it
Brotherly with heart and hand!

Unity and justice and freedom
Are the pledge of happiness -
Blossom' in the glory of this happiness,
Blossom, German fatherland!

This is NOT the german anthem but the "Deutschlandlied" performed by Heino:
