This video missed the part where he mentioned to use these same rockets as passenger flights for Earth, which will reduce the travel time from anywhere on Earth, to anywhere on Earth, to less than an hour. (Most long distance flights less than 30 minutes). That's less time it takes for me to take the bus to work. Holy fucking shit.
This also means a lot of people will experience zero gravity and being in space... In our lifetimes.
IN OUR LIFETIMES.
30 minutes + 3 hours to clear security & immigration :(
Supervolcano says: NOPE!
How long do I have to live on Mars before I'm considered a Martian? When I become a Martian, am I allowed to come back to earth? Will I be met with curiosity and acceptance or fear and violence? Man, it's tough being a Martian. I'll just stay human for now.
You'll be treated the way America treats brown immigrants, no matter if your family was born on Mars 400 years earlier or not.
And how would that be? Do you know any "brown" immigrants that have been mistreated? I think you might be confusing "brown" with "illigal".
If you're the first person on Mars, bring a flag and declare independence. You can become Martian instantaneously and spark the first inter-planatery war at the same time!
I feel like I could move to Mars. I'm not sure why. But it seems everyone there would have a meaningful purpose through their entire lives in order to successfully terraform the planet and start constructing cities and whatnot. I would of course want to come back. But not really. Wouldn't it be an epiphany type experience, to give up everything down here? All the politics and nonsense that you only care about because someone keeps telling you it's important, even if you'll never have an impact. And just start over and actually be part of something.
But since it's an actual corporation that now is going to claim Mars, what happens if they go bankrupt? Are people up there going to be stranded or will someone else take over the business? And what will the politics be up there? Since a company will now become a planetary one world government. Will they need a leader? And what will the first Martian protest look like? Will there be Police? And will crime result in deportation back to Earth? And would that be considered racist?
Or will they create their own judge, jury and executioner up there?
How are Elon Musk's conversations with the US Government on this topic? Because I would guess that the continuity of government plans for Earth in case of a disaster would factor in Mars if it becomes a second home to human civilization.
Will everyone on Mars be an employee except for tourists? And how long does that employment last? What does the contract look like? Because that contract must be masterfully written. Because people change their minds. But regretting going there, probably won't put you on the first flight back.
And can anyone defect from Earth and stay up there?
I would like to know more.
Fuck that. Why would anyone want to live in a hellscape where one crack of the glass leads to this.
You should read ''The Moon is a Harsh Mistress'' by Robert Heinlein, it deals with all the issues you mentioned, except it's set on the Moon.
Have they solved the problem of getting usable nitrogen on Mars yet?
Question, why would you spend seven months traveling to Mars only to stay two weeks.
