the only evidence that they should work is in simulations, hence why from the mayo clinic - "Face masks may help slow the spread of the coronavirus."

Incorrect, a recent study from germany suggests that masks work very well as after they were made mandatory the new infections dropped significantly. I posted this before including link to the pdf but of course, if it does not conform with the bias....
