OTOH, he knows he will not get funding without a proper proposal, is he trying to grind them down? Most americans apparently think the shutdown was his fault anyway.

In all seriousness, maybe Mexico IS going to pay for it. Trump might work out a deal in the next few weeks. Trump gets Mexico to actually pay for it like he had his supporters chanting they would at his rallies for his campaign and he insisted they would for first part of his presidency and the drama is over. How he is suddenly able to say the U.S. taxpayer is paying for it and even shut down the government unless they do is truly Trumpian in its audacity.
