Some antidepressants can prevent you from climaxing so there's that option...out the window (badum-tss).
But more seriously I was touched by the description of it being akin to choosing between jumping and fire lashing at your body. I know someone who attempted suicide (or was it a cry for help, go figure) but they describe a psychotic break filled with such noise and chaos in their mind right before doing it. So..maybe a bit more compassion for those affected, I think.
