Yeah they nailed it with the cast. Will Smith as Neo would have been fucking terrible. I guess Brad Pitt would have been good too.
The sequels aren't bad, just not up there with the first one, which is why I think people bash them. The story is lacking, but they're entertaining with great fight scenes and the highway scene is one of the action scenes in movie history.
Just wished the fourth even had 10% of what the sequels had.
