They used to use lobotomy as a miracle cure for mental issues. But all it really did is remove the patient's ability to express his/her symptoms by destroying part of their brain.
It is shocking to see how it used to be so widespread even though it very obviously was destroying the patient's personality and intellect. It often turned them into vegetables who spent the rest of their lives sitting in a chair and drooling. Many patients had it done to them without their consent. It had even been done to a 12 year old boy.
It seemed that all that the doctors who used this "practice" only cared about making their patients more manageable in their institution.
