personally i believe it's a combination of the shere weight of rules we have to contend with in modern society and the fact that you simply can't beat the piss out of someone without getting sued.
people quiet down a tad when the appropriately applied back hand knocks them on there arse. i can't wait till there a new internet challenge called "i turned off a karen".
