makes partial sense, though personally i'd prefer some kind of stage system so those restrictions only apply to new gun owners. there's reason to prevent idiots (such as those who leave their guns lying around for people to steal) from being a danger but no reason to prevent sensible gun owners who are club members are take regular courses.

another way of making this new law more reasonable would be to allow gun ranges to buy more ammo, like switzerland does.

also the 2nd amendment doesn't cover ammunition or accessories.

Imposing new rules sometimes tends to be over the top but it seems americans are, again, at least one dimension worse than the rest of the world.

It appears the new legislation proposal does not feature the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT issue when it comes to gun ownership: training requirements. A gun is completely and utterly useless and even more dangerous if the person holding it does not know how to use it correctly and actually knows how to hit a target when shooting (within reason).

Age restriction is as ridiculous and idiotic as alcohol laws in some states. Either you are adult at 18 OR at 21, so the voting age should count if you ask me.

Ristricting the number of guns and ammo may be a topic for detailed discussion but lets stay with the basics:

Limiting ammunition the way they intend to do is outright idiotic, so is forcing people to have a gun in the safe at all times when the intended use is home protection.

If someone steals your gun you are liable for the damage this person does.... Rules like this would (better: should) focus the mind, now, wouldn't they. One would have to add some sort of get out of jail card, though, like "if it wasn't locked in your gun safe" or "if it wasn't lost during a (gun)fight in which the owner was disabled sufficiently to have to give up their weapon"

The gist is: If you own a gun you are responsible for it FULL STOP. If you act negligent like leave it in the bedside table drawer or cupboard when out of the house and someone breaks in and steals it YOU FUCKED UP, nobody else. If someone gets hurt or killed with that gun it is partly (if your kid did it it is FULLY) your fault, no further discussion necessary.

Now in many countries the gun laws are too strict but introducing sensible rules and regs, like permits based on intended use with relevant background and "fitness for use" (physically and mentally) checks, gun registration and training is long overdue in the US and in contrary to ever so popular gun nut interpretation does not infringe on your constitutional rights.

I disagree that people should be "grandfathered in". The rules would have to be for everyone.

Oh and of course the ever so loved "car accident" red herring, irrelevant statistics, "gun fee zone" came up. This guy really had me in stitches some times!

BTW: The guy that allegedly (there is no proof for that at all) stopped the shooter wasn't a law abiding citizen at all if he entered a gun free zone with a fire arm.
