It always amuses me when people think corporations are out there looking after their best interests. Instead of just being liers. Youtube never pretended to be a non-profit co-op or something.

They didn't. But they did rely on the perception that YouTube was a much more free and open system of expression to grow their platform. As a private company they have every right to make a change and begin aggressively injecting authoritarian postmmodern neo-marxist horseshit ideas and filtering into the daily operations and policies that govern their website. It's just really fucking stupid and hard to watch a person who almost certainly should never have been propped into their position to point the nose down, light the afterburner, and drive that MF straight into the ground. Somewhere there's a competent and intelligent woman who didn't get to be CEO of YouTube because some Airhead valley girl with the right ideological preconceptions was given training wheels and a chair lift to the top of Silicon Valley.

And everyone keeps talking about how YouTube is a private company that can make its own decisions but I never see people pointing out the fact that the decisions that are being made appear to be valuing the personal ideological whims of a science-hating clique of idiots to the point of seriously damaging YouTube's brand and outside perception from many different corners of society. That's bad policy and bad operation for a private company that is the second most trafficked site on the Internet.

Yes, yes and yes. Yeah they did pretend to be free and open and all. They did change, sort of. It is stupid and hard.

But one thing is certain, it wasn't unforseeable. The nature and directions a corporation can take are more or less dictated by the fact that it is indeed a corporation. At some point market shares, policy guidelines, corporate law and other factors mandate a course of action similar to all the other international corporations. Good people doing the devils work and all that. The devil in this case being an untenable economic(thought) construct.
