Ukraine as an independent country is 31 years old & has been a battleground between East & West for centuries going back to Austro-Hungarian v Russian Empire about 300 years ago. The state itself exists in large part due to Russia.
Internationally recognized territory is not the only part of what shapes people's views, there are familial & cultural bonds between Ukraine & Russia due to their shared history.
This is part of the reason why Ukraine being neutral is the best solution & why aggressively pulling it West (coup, nazis etc) was so likely to result with what we see today.

Then why so much destruction and innocent civilian casualties? They have the forces to occupy and surround, they could have done that, they could have occupied the country, surrounded the cities and towns and waited them out. They would have gained more support and look less shitty in the eyes of the world. They chose to destroy. Its like an abusive drunk husband beating up the woman and children, burning the house down, then saying "but I love you, we are family".
Like I said, and you misunderstood, I dont care what lead up to this, or the how and why, I know there is a lot of history and political shit going on that I am taking the "staying out of it" stance. What I do care about is the destruction and innocent casualties that did not need to happen. Again, liek the abusive husband, I would not care what lead up to it and whatnot, I would care that he beat his wife and children and burned their house down. Get it?

I get where you're coming from. Because this is such a pivotal conflict I think in time you'll get to know more about the background. "I dont care what lead up to this" renders any judgement you make on Russia's decisions a bit redundent imo. If you're backed up in a corner while your mates are getting beaten up, you know you're next & the only way out is to fight your way out are you entitled to use violence then?
And if you do, is it you alone who's responsible for any noses you break?
