You have every right to be, in another video, this guy explains that he was livestreaming this video on youtube. When you do that, youtube most certainly is listening.

When I grew up people use to wonder if god was listening.

If this was really live streamed live then youtube could have easily captured the audio and done OCR on the video and used that... which is probablly a lot more possibly justified as he was publishing it publicly.

Google is only listening when there's a device accessible remotely that can convert air vibrations into sound and transfer that data somewhere else.

If it’s not listening then it’s obviously psychic and or prophetic.

You gotta tweak the privacy settings in Chrome if you don't want custom ads etc. You can tell Google not to collect info but good luck verifying that. If you're on a computer, AdblockPlus is your friend. On a tablet/phone you need to jump through more hoops to block ads & I don't even know if it's possible on iPhone. Blocking ads can speed things up & preserve your battery, same as turning off Facebook/Twitter etc on your phone when you're not using them.

You wouldn't happen to know why I'm all of a sudden getting a shit load of adds in my google searches?

There's like 4-6 adds before the actual search result and then theres adds sprinkled in between them and a couple more at the end. It's like 40% of adds. Like what the actual fuck.

I used to get maybe a couple at the beginning and they were clearly marked as adds. I don't think I've changed any settings. All I can switch from the setting is if the adds are personalized or not, but the amount of adds pretty much stays the same.

Edit: so I counted what I get when I google something.

I get 12 add links and 14 search results in the first page.

Install AdBlock Plus & the ads go away completely. It also prevents ads on Youtube & other sites.

The high volume of ads is probably related to Christmas.

You can also change how many search results you get here.

Ad toggle personalised ads here

It also pays to tweak the settings on this page to how you want them - I have Google store my activity data (first setting) for convenience, so when I use my phone it has my data all loaded in (search history etc). If you're worried about privacy turn that setting off.

I've been using Adblock plus for years. Doesn't seem to affect the adds in the search result, but filters youtube adds and all banner adds on different sites. Don't know if the setting are messed up on my Adblock. I've looked through all the settings but can't find anything that should be causing this.

Do you have it enabled on google.com? (or whatever domain your google search shows on)

Try a search then click the icon in the toolbar, it'll show whether it's on or not.

These are the filter lists that came with adblock. Haven't touched them and I haven't white listed google. There doesn't seem to be an option to add a specific site.  Any Idea what list I should add?

  • EasyPrivacy

  • Fanboy's Social Blocking List

  • ABP filters

  • EasyList

Adblock Plus and NoScript, pretty much the only freeware tools I donate too.

Wouldn't know as I use adblock. Also I would not call this test conclusive evidence.

If you have an android phone, google email address and used the same search engine you should not be surprised. Neither should you when using apple products.

When setting up your phone you accepted certain conditions, most just click yes to all, check them out and your general conditions of use.

I just don't trust some guy in a video, this needs proper research.

He was live streaming so everything went through youtubes voice recognition. He did 4 follow up tests that were all pre-recorded and got maybe 1-2 hits that were questionable at the best.

The voice recognition is amazing with phones these days. Ever tried to recite a message using the microphone button thats on google keyboard? It's like 95% accurate even with background noise while driving.

I'd be more surprised if it wasn't being misused one way or the other.

I kind of trust google, but those ads are cookie driven and youtube are dicks so i think the problem lies there and not with google
