I think it is more like a classic case of neural insufficiency that makes them go 'herpderp-but-king-trump-plays-4D-chess-you-just-dont-get-it'.

Hmm...while you bicker about the formula used, 50 countries have called Trump to negotiate trade deals. Hmmm...its almost as if there is an art to making a deal, perhaps writing a book would help people like you idiots to understand...oh wait...LOL

Now why do you think they do this, because trump is such a great leader and negotiator or because they want to limit the damage the idiot does globally (just to be clear globally includes the US)?

Wow...its scary that people like you get to vote.

Let me explain this to you...most countries have protectionist trade agreements...they sell to the USA but do not allow the USA to sell back to them. Trump tore that shit apart and now the USA will be selling to them on a level playing field. That is why they are calling.

Do you understand now?

these "most countries" already include the US. Also NO country will import something they can produce in required quantities at competitive prices themselves. Even you do this, Mr "entrepreneur" albeit on a smaller scale.

From what I've read the Free Trade Agreements are used to keep market stability in local countries so that foreign competition will sell on a level playing field and not force local competition out of business. It is every countries right to do this since it is supposed to represent its peoples interests. The only limit on US sales I am aware of in Europe is your food health and safety standards are at a lower tier than Europe and so are not accepted on that basis.

"Vehicles"? This is important? You are joking, right? Or is it  because trump said it and you just believe it?

There is only a niche market for US vehicles in Europe (there are a few exceptions like Tesla, Harley and some "cult cars" like Jeep -which is now Stellantis of course, Corvette, Mustang and only a few more), even 0% tariffs on cars would not change this. Non-US manufacturers do not sell some models in Europe that fly off the shelves in the US and plenty of cars produced for Europe are not available on your side of the pond.

This is because over here there is NO MARKET for these vehicles, mainly because they are too big, consume too much petrol and lag behind in quality by quite some margin. Tesla was an exception, however their vehicles lack updates and now have the "elon problem".

BTW musk does not want these tariffs despite their "gigafactory" near Berlin, Germany. That should tell you something but of course it will not.
BTW2 About 50% of the components of teslas produced in the US are sourced from foreign countries, the vast majority comes from China.

Ugh...I dont really care that much to look into it all. No I dont watch Trump or pay attention to what he says. Actions speak louder than words. I dont have cable, cut that cord over 20 yrs ago. So...i dont watch fox or cnn or bbc or npr. I think I only watched one of trumps victory speaches or something like that around the holidays becuase my girlfriends mother wanted to watch it. He's pretty entertaining. Not my thing though. Most of the time I play youtube channels of lawyers talking about the scotus decisions or the legal arguments while im working.

So...are vehicles important to me. No. Becuase Trump said it...no. brought it up becuase I spent a few minutes looking inti trade imbalances and after reading endless google garbage results, that was what I found. Dont care enough to get deeper into it.

This is beautiful. Here you are summing up all your past comments on all topics:
You don't have a clue but that doesn't stop you from having a strong opinion on everything. And you firmly believe that your opinion is as valid as that of people that actually know what they are talking about. You get your "information" from sources you (consciously or unconsciously) confirm your bias.

This approach you have to all aspects of your life, your work history of "I'll do everything as long as it is not mentally challenging but am not really good at anything" you described in another post the other day.

Thing is...when you know how the game is played, you dont need the insignificant details. Only dumb people need to pay attention to every single detail and event out there. You literally cannot see the forest for the fucking trees.

So to you it is an insignificant detail either the fact that there is no market (exceptions as above) for US cars in  Europe or that you are happy to have an opinion on something you don't know jack shit about??

Let me guess, it is the latter.....

You don't have to think about insignificant detail such as how the US is going to replace all the Chinese products with American ones overnight.

Trump said it will work, so it will be so.

Well...again...leftist ideals here...I dont want a group of people subjected to working in SWEATSHOPS to produce crap we dont fucking need! Again, how are you OK with taking advantage of people to make you junk getting paid so low and in such horrible conditions that they have to install nets outside the buildings to catch people jumping out! You are literally arguing for sweatshop labor yet call yourself a leftist? Caring about people, right? Except for the Asains making your crap. $5 in labor to produce a fucking Iphone. Pull your head out of your ass.

Tough to nail it down but what was it with you? Lack of oxygen at birth? Fetal alcohol syndrome? Retardation? You are by far the biggest moron I've ever encountered on the web.

Hey buddy, did you see the SCOTUS slapping the shit out of the rouge judges? The rouge judge is going against the SCOTUS now, lol...fuckhead will get impeached. Ahhh, what a good day.

Anyways...allow me to help you figure this out...you are like kyle's dad on South Park getting a Prius, smelling your farts and getting high on your smugness. You are so smug that you think you have the moral and so therefore intellect high ground but in reality you are just ignorantly arrogant. Too dumb to comprehend how wrong you actually are.

No really I dont call myself a leftis. Thats the problem with many Americans, they can only see things in terms of left or right.

The fact that China has lower wages doesn't mean every factory is a sweatshop. And like you cared even if it were. Your all of a sudden worried about Chinese citizens. :D It's amazing what you come up with just to try and defend Trump.

But this is all beside the point. The question is HOW will the US going to replace Chinese good over night and still make it affordable to the average consumer.

I answered your question. I said we dont need cheap chinese crap.

You might be asking the wrong person buddy. Im a minimalist. I built out a sprinter van to live in fulltime, I shop at thrift stores, I buy and use antiques/vintage because they are better quality.

Maybe you shop a drift store but not everyone does (or needs to). China makes a good chunk of your products. Something has to replace them. When I say Chinese goods, I imagine you think about useless TEMU shit or something?  No, actual stuff that people need, like phones, home appliances, power tools etc. You've never notices how almost everything has a "made in china" label on it?

I'm 99% sure what your using to post on this site is made in China. Better throw that shit away ASAP. Good luck finding an American made alternative.

The fact that they only chose values from 2024 to calculate the tariff is short sighted.  Things change over time, and they could have used a broader time scale approach.
