'Mentally retarded' is being replaced with 'intellectually and developmentally disabled (IDD)'.
Some say this isn't good enough and want it to be 'differently-abled'.
Like if that catches on kids won't call each other 'differently-abled'....that's a hilarious insult :) It not only poked fun at a person's intellect, it's patronizing.

What happened to the term handicapped?
Here in spain we call the disabled "minusvalidos" which literally means "lessvalids" and nobody gives a shit, not even the lessvalids.

'Handicapped' was for physical disabilities.... it became un-PC about 20 years ago here in NZ. We also used to say 'crippled' but that's mildly un-PC now.
There was a period where we said 'special' but that quickly became an insult & then un-PC.
I think 'disabled' is the PC term for physically disabled people these days, at least it is for parking spaces. They should stick with that one I reckon....it's hard to use as an insult & doesn't have a noun equivelent. "You're so disabled" just sounds weird.
