What I see he's saying from it is that no matter how good you are at something, how many people around you want you to continue doing it and how well it pays to do it, it might not be what will make you feel happy about yourself if it isn't what you want to do deep inside. He's rejecting the common conceptions we have of "success" such as money or fame as the conditions for happiness.
Although he's kinda overlooking the fact that he's benefiting from enough cash reserves to sustain him for the rest of his life. Most people have bills to pay and families to support and don't have the choice to quit the job they hate and do something that pays far less like becoming an artist just because it is what they really want to do.
