City Rats

I can count myself as a suburban rodentologist.. I've never dealt with rats. In November, I heard a mouse in the ceiling and declared war. I set sticky traps and snap traps in the attic and garage. The best snap traps are these:

They work every time with just a tiny piece of cheese or peanut butter added and are cheap, so they just get thrown out with the mouse casualty. I caught 3 immediately. After 10 trapped, I was shocked. After 20 I was stunned! I caught 1 that looked like a squirrel, then they got smaller. Finally, I caught 1 a week and now I haven't caught one for over a month. The final tally is 26. I can't believe 26 mice were living in my house. Rats would completely freak me out. I would find a way to eliminate them because they are just too disgusting.

We like to pretend we're all glamour and glitter. But truth is we're a species specialized in creating shit, garbage and waste. That creates environments for species that we do not necessarily want near us. Rats, mice, cockroaches, seagulls, pidgeons, raccoons and so on and in the bigger end wild dog packs and even big cats like cougars and whatnot.

If we want to change that we have to fix the end-cycle of our stuff and make massive improvement in our wild-life handling methods. We also have to change our cities into living systems that more than likely will have to have hunters that eat the rats, pidgeons and so on in it as a 'natural' part of the city.
