Apparently Bartolo Fuentes is being blamed as the guy responsible for the caravan although he says he joined an existing movement. He's a former opposition lawmaker in Honduras & pro-migration advocate. Fuentes has a radio show on migration called “Without Borders.” He was arrested last week in Guatemala & returned to Honduras.
The initial news reports that informed a lot of people about the caravan before it formed were run on HCH which is closely linked to the Honduran gov't.
From my 15 mins research it seems like Fuentes was just trying to help a few dozen people migrate (he used lies about finance & stuff) & then it went viral when it was reported on the news & relayed in social media.
There are now about 14,000 migrants heading North & will reach the US border some time in December.
