dan replied to a comment of yours in the Italy Possible Ground Zero for COVID-19 thread, then he changed his comment, then he changed it again, and again, and again and again and again. so i replied with a period to end it. next link i clicked it sent me to a Access Denied page, tried to log back in, got a msg saying account wasn't active or was suspsended.

You were blocked for a few hours for being an annoying dick. The comment had nothing to do with you & I hadn't finished editing it. As I've explained several times I sometimes do a couple of quick edits to my comments. That's what the 'edit' button is for. If we don't want that button there we'll remove it. Next time you get cute about this your ban will last longer, it's about 10 times you've tried to turn it into an issue with spam or dots & you're at the end of your rope.

I don't mind the edit button, at least now you can't edit once a comment was replied to, which is good. In contrary to you I mainly edit my comments to correct typos, not to change the content anyway.
What I find rather annoying is that once edited the post comes up like having a new comment.
Maybe there should be a time limit for editing like 30 or 60 minutes.
Why comment in the first place if you haven't thought it through though?

It's just how I like to do. I like to post whatever comes to mind then check to see if it makes sense. It takes a minute or 2 to do any edits. My edits are typically fixing typos, adding a little more, reducing a long comment to something a bit easier to read or on rare occasion softening something to not be a dick.
This has been explained to sal but he doesn't wanna listen to reason. He'd rather sit there refreshing the recent comment page & opening new tabs to check for edits before copypasting every change (no matter how inconsequential) - this derails the threads. His new trick is to a single char so I can't edit my comment. It fucks with my ability to use the site, derails threads & makes a mess. I've offered several solutions for him to avoid comments editing being a problem for him but he doesn't seem interested in reason (this is spikednation after all).
The time limit is a good suggestion, it's been discussed before but it's not easy to implement. What some sites do is put a 'comment edited' badge of shame in there, I think this is better but this site is patched together on an old framework that makes dev work pretty gnarly. The best solution is for sal to not be an annoying dick.

"on first try" is not how this site is setup. There's no delete button so if you make a mistake or want to rephrase/reformat the only option is to edit your comment.
derailing converstions with pointless copypasta or forcing the edit button not to work by replying with a '.' goes against what the comment section is for...to communicate.

Yeah, replying with a period locks it in so that you can reply. This is what I suggested you do instead of obsessively checking my comments for edits to 'catch me out'. You ended up using that advice to be an annoyng dick, replying with a period without making an actual comment. You've done it on multiple occasions, jut leaving a period there. The last time you did it I gave you 5 mins to make sure you weren't actually going to write a comment & then just deleted your comment & blocked you so I could finish my own comment. Because you've been annoying me with these games for months I left you blocked for a few hours.
You've never actually said what your problem is with my comment edits other than "it messes up what you see on the recent content page" but I never have that problem because I note how many replies the top posts have... I don't see why you can't do the same if you're taking the time to sit there & refresh & open new tabs etc etc.
You've made a non-issue into an issue & trolled me with this for months. You try to make out I change the nature of my comment but other than occasionally softening the tone this just isn't the case. OK, so you were in good old SJW fashion offended by sal's actions. I would suggest to remove the comment editing function so people actually have to think about what they are writing before they hit send.
There are only very few that constantly change their comments so the meaning changes and like I sal said this is way more annoying than "replying with a dot" because people comment on the intitial content and then it does not make sense.
So get rid of the editing function and the matter is closed. AND don't use your admin rights to ban people because they are "dicks" because that makes YOU the dick.

This has not been an issue once with sal. His issue is that he gets confused about what he sees on the recent content page. This issue has come up once with Skeptoid a while back & he asked me to stop which I did for a while & try not to do when replying to him. There was no hostiliy, no annoying dicky things. We just worked it out.
What sal's gone & done is the equivelent of giving a waiter attitude for no reason without realising the guy's going to be handling his food in the kitchen. Not smart. I'm a forgiving person but months of this trolling ends now. Your suggestion about the edit button is noted.

I don't know that that's possible & would require hacking which breaks the updatability of the module (or at least makes every update require manually re-inserting the hack) but the work around is to add a character like . or * & then type your real reply. I've suggested this already. Unfortunately this suggestion was turned against me into a way to be an annoying dick.
