poisoning is ridiculous, oxygen deprivation is ridiculous, but oxygen reduction is completely true. anytime breathing is restricted, your heart needs to pump harder to make up the difference. in most people the blood oxygen level will not change and they'll just have a higher than usual heart rate while wearing a mask, but people with heart problems, any kind of airway restriction such as asthma, etc, will suffer from wearing a mask, particularly if they have to do exercise.

it's something you can try yourself even if you don't have access to an oximeter. try running up stairs with a mask on, you'll feel much more winded than without it.

i'm curious about your description where you mention scuba divers, what are you talking about? scuba masks have no filter or any other kind of gas flow restriction, and oxygen needs are different at depths anyway. what's the equivalency here?

Surgeon's masks don't restrict the airflow sufficently to have an influence on the heart rate, N95 masks may, though. This has been tested on surgeons way before corona became an issue and, although some subjects actually showed excellerated heartrate this was attributed to the task ahead rather than a reducion of oxygen. I won't look for the link now, look yourself.

Masks are generally not recommended when exercising, however, N95 or similar are used when doing physical work.

People with certain health conditions should not wear a mask, that is correct.

When breathing normally the mask extends the natural dead space, i.e. the volume of air that does not get exchanged when breathing, which is formed by throat and nose/mouth, like a snorkel or a scuba regulator does. However in a mask this space is not big enough to have an impact when breathing normally.

Full face snorkel masks have come into criticism for their large dead space, some shallow breathers passed out, a few even died when wearing them.

Total bullshit! Masks can cut off oxygen and kill 10 times as many people as Covid-19 ever will.

note how it's only a minute long, he's not doing anything other than just sitting there, and he's young, fit, and healthy.

"don't restrict the airflow sufficently to have an influence" on who's heart rate? have you never met anyone who's gasping after climbing a couple flights of stairs?

N95's are far worse. it's well documented that prolonged wearing causes headaches, and even recently doctors have been saying that if you don't have a headache from the mask then it can't be fitted right.

They gasp with or without a mask. Masks are not for exercising. Wear a surgeon's mask and there are no issues.

Fully read and at least try to comprehend what people are writing before replying.

The guy in the video I uploaded is wearing the N95 mask for 15 minutes an there is no change in oxygen levels.
