Fuck these assholes for making it sound like the people who complain about being woken up at 3AM are self-entitled. And fuck them for not even attempting to consider the consequences of waking up millions of people at such a stupid time at night with a loud-ass alarm noise that might as well have been a screamer video.
When you disrupt someone's sleep like that they WILL be far less alert during the following day and WILL be more prone to errors in judgement. They've just done that to thousands, if not millions of people.
Most people have to commute to work the following day. A lot of them have dangerous jobs where a single lapse in judgement can lead to an accident. To that you add all the people whose job requires them to make complex decisions that could result in injuries or deaths of people. Then to that you add people with heart disease for who any added stress can increase their chances of heart attack.
With all this it isn't difficult to put together that sending out an amber alert at such a stupid time in the night to such a large group of population does have a cost in risk to life that MUST be weighed against the potential benefits from sending such a message out at that time. With such a large population even a 1% increase in risk can result in additional accidents or deaths. And given that most of these people were asleep while this message was sent out, the benefit was almost NIL. And I'm not even considering the millions of dollars in lost productivity from the sleep-deprived work force or the simple fact that you're pissing off everyone.
A 12 year old would be able to reason that the better decision to make there would have been to send an immediate message to all law enforcement agencies and wait to a more appropriate time to send the amber alert to the rest of the population. And yet the idiots who run the dumpster fire that is the amber alert system are far too self-absorbed with the "nobility" of their cause to make simple judgement calls like that. They can't be trusted with the power they were given. They were given a sledgehammer and now everything is a nail to them.

The only reason why I'd see someone downvote my opinion is if they don't know that in Canada you do not have the option of disabling this alarm short of turning off your phone. They force that wake up call at 3AM on everyone.
