Joe Rogan - Why Americans Don't Eat Horse

Just found this out a couple of day's ago that it is illegal to slaughter or buy horse meat in the US, i never noticed it before that they just never sold it anywhere, it is because it is illegal, the best meat next to ostridge is horse steak both contain almost no fat, yet tastes delicious.

Yeah I've always wondered about that too. I live in upstate New York and we have a ton of good land to graze upon, beef is pretty cheap but any other meat is imported from out of state or country. Chicken all comes from the midwest, lamb comes from New Zealand, good luck trying to find rabbit or anything else. Ive been looking for other kinds of meats and talkign with local farmers at the farmers markets about it. Some have Bison, one has ostrich but its very expensive. I grew up hunting and eating what we hunt, mainly rabbit and deer. But you'd never find that in local restaurants and its sad. We got huge refugee population that bring alot of diversity to the table but you have to really try hard to find stuff, the local Vietnamese grocery has a lot of weird stuff I'll try at least once. Too many people flock to shitty places like Panarea Bread and Applebees. Shit thats microwaved in plastic bags. Really sad state of affairs :(

I had ostrich in 2 days ago in Isfahan. Was OK. Little bit dry but that's on the chef I guess.

Back in Auckland we have a really diverse set of restaurants, it's maybe the best thing about the place. In recent years mainland Chinese have moved in with their cheap, yummy, healthy food served by pple who dgaf in often a grubby restaurant... Its great

So true. Our options for meats are limited here. I tried bison a few years ago and it was excellent. On a ski trip to Maine, a local brought moose-the best cuts and a sampling of others along with meatballs. It was absolutely incredible though I had a hard time getting past the psychological block of the Bullwinkle syndrome. They have an excellent diet and the meat is super high-protein and low fat. I took some home to freeze but it's all gone. I'm ready to make a trip and stock up on some.

You don't see moose on menus where I live and I've seen them in my yard. I've thought about hunting but the butchering is expensive and a trip in itself.
