Why cops miss a lot in real gunfights

doesn't make sense, natural threat response is to bring arms up and in. more logical reason would be they're not thinking about what they should do (happens to everybody firefighters report the same) and just aiming for the center of the target which is mid-torso, exactly where those shots were going.

Minus that one winger they were all at least 6 inches low on target. This is huge considering that the target was whithin 5 feet of the shooter. And considering that the spread was also absolutely horrendous by target shooting standards.

Under normal range conditions at that range an average shooter would have easily rapid fired a ragged hole on the "A" printed in the middle of the target. Heck, even an amateur shooter would have done better. This shows how badly the stress of a situation can adversely affect your precision and accuracy.

This correlates with my own personal experience in training scenarios like this. For most people, the first time you do it your mind is so overwhelmed and you are in such a rush to do things as fast as possible that you only manage to subconsciously raise the weapon somewhat halfway towards the target you are looking at before pulling the trigger. My first time shooting at a target like this under those conditions resulted in just about the same kind of miserable failure. It was the picture of a person holding a gun, it was waiting for me around a corner just about as close as it was in the video. I managed to make a three round group just about 6 inches below the picture of the gun on the target, which was what I was looking at when I made the decision to pull the trigger. I had no memory of even trying to raise the rifle to point it at the target. After a bit more practice this problem went away and I could start consciously place my shots on the targets.

All that to say that being able to make nice groups on paper at a range is nice, but these skills are useless if you don't also train your brain to keep functioning properly in stressful fast-paced scenarios like these.

Wasnt there a whole terrible movie based on this? Aim with your heart, not your eye. Had a gunslinger in it?
