[FULL] 2018 US Open trophy ceremony with Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka | ESPN

The booing part is just the first 30 seconds. Naomi covers her face & can't hold back the tears.

Crowd ends up cheering for her at 5:00 after Serena gets her participation award.

Some more context & commentary on the event

The umpire wasn't on the podium.

It's not obvious why she cried but in the presser (video #3 at 8:50) she explains that if Serena had won it would be her 24th Grand Slam which is some kind of record. Since Naomi is such a big fan the booing kinda hammered it home that "Serena lost" was a big deal.

There's a big contrast between Naomi's humility & the narcicism showed by Serena & the fans.

if they were doing that, i would think anyone with a bit of empathy would realize they were making things really hard on the other player. i also heard that there are really nasty comments on the other player's social media accounts, so probably some of those booing or maybe fans who weren't actually present  may be directed at her.

Serena is a bully & has learnt how to work the crowd. She acts sweet towards her opponent after ruining the whole vibe in the arena - it's not the first time.

Most of what I've seen has been people slamming Serena for her performance. There are extremists like Trevor Noah & the usual feminist idiots who are standing by Serena but people aren't buying it & her stock has plummeted big time. Her public image will never be the same.

Serena is currently ranked #16 in the world (Naomi is #7) & she needs 1 more major tournament victory to tie the record. It'll be interesting to see if she can do it after this. I reckon she needs to drop the feminist crusade & focus on being an athlete until she retires or she may never reach the top again.
