Sounds like a savage capitalism dream to me: Have all your employees in your mines and factories work jobs that pay so little they can't even survive without help from the government. As long as you're not the one who pays for that help. Which you're not because of all of the tax breaks you get for "creating jobs" and promising that your money will trickle down somehow (mostly into the politician's pockets). This also means you can pollute all you want with no restriction.
Let the ever-dwindling middle class pay for all of that. That's sustainable enough to last to at least the next trimester, which is all your shareholding overlords care about anyway.
