So I was just reading some articles on this and according to them she never actually made it into the apartement. Reportedly she was trying to open the door with her key, which wasn't working, when the man opened the door to see who was trying to get in and was then shot.

I'm going to make a prediction and if I am wrong so be it. But based on the fact that the officer is female and her name has not been released I'm going to guess that the officer is a black female. This also means that this story will remain local and never become a major national news story due to the fact that it doesn't further the leftist media narrative.

I'm still not wrong as now that it's been confirmed she is white the media will do everything in their power to spin this as a racially motivated act and paint her as a cold blooded killer who was itching to shoot a black man, when in reality she is simply an incompetent woman who should have never been a cop.

Well hey, guess what, that's already a thing. I can promise you that even in the south, when it came to use of force, none of my instructors ever said "the first thing you do is draw your weapon and blast away!". As a matter of fact we told in detail that to fire your weapon in the line of duty means dealing with a mountain of shit, even if it was a good shoot.
I really don't think this has anything to do with her being a cop. Texas is one of the free states that doesn't have totalitarian laws that disarm it citizens. She could have just as well have been an ordinary working woman with a carry license and shot the guy.
This is a very, very tragic situation that is sadly being used by racist on the left to continue their divisive bullshit but if there was no criminal intent then there ought to be no criminal charges. She fucked up and no doubt liable in a civil sense that she took someone's life unjustly. The black police Chief is saying she should be charged with manslaughter, but what has been described thus far does not qualify.

(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the second degree.
Now there are circumstances that could make her actions criminal. Intoxication manslaughter is one. Intoxication manslaughter deals with the defendant recklessly causing the death of another while intoxicated.
If her blood work comes back showing she was under the influence then she's up a creek. Outside of that I think she is at most liable in a civil case where she will be indebted to his estate for years to come.
