Its from farm runoff. Pesticides and fertilizer. By me it happens to a nearby large lake that gets toxic algae blooms. The media NEVER talks about what causes it though, had to dig through DEC and studies to find it is caused by farm runoffs. There are tons of farms near the Salton sea.
