So much for alien manufactured object if it turns out it's stainless steel with a brushed surface finish.

We we assuming aliens can't make stainless steel?

I'm saying that it would be unlikely that an advanced civilization would use this specific alloy. Stainless is an alloy that requires a very specific list of ingredients to make. We humans only discovered this specific alloy's properties by accident while fumbling around. There are definitely far better alloys out there that we can't cheaply make so we use stainless instead because it has desirable properties and we can relatively cheaply make it with out current technology, infrastructure and available resources.

It is extremely unlikely that a race that has mastered interstellar travel uses this specific alloy with the exact same recipe as ours and haven't figured out a way to make something better with more advanced manufacturing processes or better access to different resources.

A brushed surface finish also says a lot in that matter since it serves no purpose other than looking "nice" to us. It is a cultural thing and directly comes from the relatively "primitive" tooling we have to shape metal objects. It is unlikely that a far more advanced alien civilization would do the same.

Its not a monolith if you can see the fasteners that hold the steelpanels down.
