Mike Pompeo Debunked

Pompeo delivers remarks on Venezuela

@ 16:10

16:12 - The US is a friend of Venezuela and of the Venezuelan people. - US has used sanctions, political pressure and covert operations to undermine the economy, democracy & sovereignty of Venezuela, and lobby other nations to overthrow the Venezuelan government. These are hostile acts, not those of a 'friend'.

16:23 - The tyranny of the Maduro regime has choked the country & its citizens. - Several factors have contributed to economic hardship in Venezuela, not least of which are the US-imposed sanctions.

16:32 - In solidarity with the people and out of respect for Venezuelan democracy the US proudly recognized National Assembly President Juan Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela - Democratic elections were held last year and Juan Guaido didn't even run. He was elected to lead the National Assembly, not the country. Recognizing him as leader of the country ahead of the elected leader is undemocratic ad against the will of the people.

17:07 - All OAS member states must align themselves with democracy and respect for the rule of law - Demanding what a democractic council MUST do is anti-democratic. - Aligning with democracy would be recognizing the elected government, Pompeo is lobbying for the opposite - The law recognizes Maduro as president.

18:59 - Venezuela's National Assembly became the only legitemate, duly elected body in the country - The Maduro government is duly elected.

19:05 - -On January 23rd NA President Juan Guaido declared himself the president of Venezuela persuant to Article 333 & 350

- Article 333 guards the constitution

- Article 350 allows the NA to disown the regime in certain circumstances

- HOWEVER - Article 335 enforces the judiciary's ultimate say over interpretation of the constitution

- Article 335 is in effect. The Supreme Court's authority has not been challenged and has declared the congressional leadership invalid, nullifying the recent anti-Maduro legislation. Below video is from today, Maduro in the Supreme Court as President of Venezuela.

19:17 - He made this declaration with the full support of the NA and most importantly of the Venezuelan people - Juan Guaido is unelected and does not have full support of the Venezuelan people. Below is a pro-government demonstration from yesterday.

- The people of the Venezuelan Armed Forces also stand with the Maduro government

Conclusion

The regime in Venezuela has support of the executive & judiciary branches of government, the armed forces & at least 20% of the people by last count. By comparison, Trump has support of around 30% of the US & Guido has 0% demonstrable support outside his local electorate in Venezuela.

The US narrative is that Guido was elected in 2015 in the last elections *recognized by the US*, and because he was then elected as leader of the NA, this means he's the 'democratically elected leader of Venezuela'. Sounds legit!

Speech ends at 22:48, Medea from Code Pink has a message for Pompeo. LOL
