Falun Gong Uncensored

Falun Gong - Celebrates the deaths of Chinese victims of the Sichuan Earthquake in a NYC parade

Sorry for shitty quality. Falun Gong are the owners of the China Uncensored channel on Youtube, via New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV), headquartered in New York, the channel is gaining popularity so I think this video is relevant.

There were stupid decisions on both sides that led to their oppression in 1999, especially on the part of then CCP leader Jiang Zemin, but all the Falun Gong seems to do these days is spread anti-CCP political propaganda. I've heard from local Chinese people here that the Falun Gong pays them to protest (astroturfing) AND it's a fast track to residency due to the oppression in China.

Li Hongzhi

The cult leader, Li Hongzhi, has a sketchy past. According to his official biography he could levitate & make himself invisible by the age of 8. According to his unofficial biography, his official biography is made up nonsense.

I've been trying to find confirmation of the organ theft they keep banging on about but all I've dug up seems based on personal testimony rather than real evidence & from sources like the National Endowment for Democracy (a break away of the CIA for subversion they can carry out in public).

In one of their videos, the presenter of China Uncensored, Chris Chappell, says he was motivated to spread anti-CCP propaganda when he saw the Chinese government's reaction to 9/11. In fact the Chinese govt did what all governments did - offered condolences & ran the script on their news stations. That channel is ironic in a lot of ways.

The other major publication of Falun Gong is the Epoch Times - they don't publicly link themselves to this either.

don't see what the association has to do with anything? if they were making stuff up then sure, but they are always re-reporting stuff from proper news sources.

this is the same story recently shown on china uncensored, reported by the bbc:

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-42062172

and also on cnn:

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/02/09/world/patrick-ho-corruption-china-africa/index.html

are you saying we should doubt the story because a channel with a sketchy connection re-reported it? you realise this isn't what propoganda is, right?

China Uncensored is gaining a lot of traction on Youtube so I thought it was relevant. Falun Gong also run a dodgy stage performance - Shen Yun - where they preach their political propaganda & sing about Falun Gong. They promote it as a historic China experience with no mention of politics or Falun Gong. Don't you find these PR tactics dodgy?

- it's a phoney religion being used as a vehicle for a political agenda. I would have thought you'd be against this kinda thing. Or is it okay if your agenda aligns?

If you watch this video you'll see them celebrate in the streets when 80,000 Chinese people died in an earthquake, calling it "karma". Any comment on that?

The articles you linked were reasonably objective, less-so the CNN piece. Neither mentioned the Belt & Road initiative because it's irrelevant. China Uncensored consistently overreaches but most people who watch it don't seem to notice.

I have a fair idea what propaganda is. Do you?

yeah those things are messed up, none of that makes any of the re-reporting untrue. it doesn't matter what the affiliation of the messenger is as long as the message is true and accurate, which it is (the channel i mean, the performance sounds closer to propaganda), and discounting the information because the messenger is untrustworthy is just the classic ad hominem logical fallacy. the channel i mean, the performance sounds closer to propaganda.

ok you know what propaganda is, so then what part of the china uncensored bit on the bribery arrests was biased or misleading? did they leave out any important information or distort the story in some other way to promote their cult?

Everything China Uncensored does is biased. It has no objectivity or balance at all. As for the B&R/Africa video....

  • There's a bunch of grey propaganda - not revealing the source of the info
  • Framing the story as part of China's Belt & Road initiative (title, opening sentence).
    • Misleading: Ho was not acting on behalf of the CCP
    • Misleading: The story has nothing to do with B&R. The bribes were for officials in Uganda & Chad (not on B&R map)
      • Side note: Ho's going to try to tie his case in with B&R for his defense. We'll have to see how he gets on. IMO he's doing exactly what they (DOJ) want because this is a politically motivated case targetting China & B&R.
  • Calling B&R "China's scheme for global domination"
    • Misleading: B&R is not global or domination. It's trade across Eurasia.
  • "CEFC is a company in Shanghai led by a guy with ties to the PLA & Chinese military intelligence"
    • Grey propaganda: No source given.
    • Misleading: Ye Jianming hasn't led the company since early this year when he was detained for questioning. He has no direct ties to PLA or Chinese military intel. Some partners of CEFC do.

They're not promoting their cult. They don't use China Uncensored to promote it. They use it to smear CCP & often to portray Falun Gong as innocent victims without disclosing their affiliation. Here's a story showing they're not as innocent as they make out.

If you want more context about China-Africa bribes have a listen to the interview linked below. Just the last ~10mins which I linked to.
