Drunk who would not die

I knew a girl when I was a teen who was like this Malloy character. She could drink and drink and drink, and instead of a sedative effect it was like speed to her. No matter how much she would drink, no matter how incorehent her speech and actions, she continued to operate - one foot in front of the other - somehow, long past the point I would have thought a normal human being would be dying. 

At 19 they were prepping her for a liver transplant. They managed to just barely save her liver. She stopped drinking.
