afaik Mariupol is the only major city Russia has actually tried to storm & they're nearly 3 weeks into it with roughly 30% of the city still in the hands of UAF/Azov or being contested. The fewer that remain the harder it is to flush them out it seems.
Another 5 helis reportedly tried to evac UAF/Azov leaders today, taking the total to 8. All have been shot down. This 5 also were allowed to do their pickups before being destroyed. Reports of 2 French intelligence officers were on board, both ded.

Their city has been occupied by Nazis for 8 years, they took it in 2014 after the people there rejected the new coup regime in Kyiv. Did you want them to attack those NATO-armed bastards with kitchen knives or did you assume they should be fighting against the pro-Russian forces?
"hiding in the basement" IE staying alive so you can try & help your family survive is the best option for a lot of them.
