Well if we were to follow Warhammers example.
We would be forcefully subjugated and enslaved to a fascist technocratic oligarchy for own own safety and prosperity against a myriad of outside threats beyond our control for the greater good of humanity.
But I am curious to hear other examples as well.

But in such a case n0val33t would obviously be an informat to the Imperial Inquisition and would be seeking my identification, interrogation, torture and conversion into something like a Servitor while expecting to be rewarded for his service to the Emperor, so in such a case he would still be my enemy. I need an example where we would have a common enemy.

As for a common enemy, the indifference of the powers that be to the common man. Then again you can't fight those as they use people just like you and me to do the killing.
