The YouTuber, Anthony Vella, fell from a height of 26 meters while flying over Texas.

he's ok. his back, neck, pelvis and arm broke his fall. i watched it but my browser tab was on mute, thought it didn't come with sound so i imagined the noises he would be making, i was pretty close

I've been following this guy for years since I fly a paramotor too. (still a total noob at it, not many hours under my belt)

Don't know what the guy was thinking.  First flight with a advanced fast wing and doing that shit at low altitude.

Basically he was flying the wing "accelerated" which means it becomes really fast but also much more unstable and in the case of a collapse of the wing it's way harder to recover. You do that when the weather is really calm and at altitude so you have time to recover if shit goes side ways. I guess the cause was a small tangle in the lines that isn't usually a problem, but when you fly accelerated you're already pushing the wings capabilities to hold shape and it doesn't take much to cause something like this.

I wouldn't call this a wing. It is a chute.  A wing has solid components to it.

These things are not made for speed, I guess the guy tried it a few times, got loads of "clicks" and got complacent, this is the result.

So many assumption without knowing anything about the sport or this guy.

These are called wings, even though they might not fit your definition of a wing. You want to buy one of these you google "paramotor wing". Chutes are usually a sky diving thing.

These can be flown relatively fast. How fast you can go depends what kind of wing. This was some kind of performance wing that is supposed to be really fast and that comes with added risk. On top of that, he was at the far end of the weight range for this wing which also makes it even faster and less likely to recover.

I've been subbed to him since the start of the channel, I think I've seen all his videos, doesn't do any crazy stuff for click, but isn't your average slow cruiser either.

I googled "wing", the results are more or less the same in the links I followed:
"a rigid horizontal structure that projects from both sides of an aircraft and supports it in the air."

Hence for me as a layman using the word to describe what keeps this vehicle "afloat" is generating a false sense of safety.

Well now you know there are different kinds of wings.

It's as safe as you make it. I'd say the risk is similar to riding a motor cycle.
