Minor recall @ tesla

Tesla recalls nearly all its electric vehicles over Autopilot issue

I forgot to add "full self driving will be available next year", I will forget about that too and repeat the same sentence next year, and probably several years thereafter too!

Is it a recall or a software update?

In every report I have seen it is called a "recall". Possibly the issues can be solved with a major software modification, which I would call a DOWNgrade because advertised functions will be limited or removed. Probably Elon will advertise is as an upgrade, though, and the fantards will eat it all up nicely.

In any case I would define a "factory recall" in automotive terms not necessarily as a hardware issue or a necessity to visit the workshop, it is a rather IMPORTANT modification needed due to safety concerns.

There's a big difference between a typical recall and a software update. Specially if you talking about 2 million cars.

Kinda misleading even if it is technically correct, but I think thats intentional here.

Got this from the first article I clicked on:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the Autopilot system can give drivers a false sense of security and be easily misused in certain dangerous situations when a Tesla’s technology may be unable to safely navigate the road. The over-the-air software update will give Tesla drivers more warnings when they are not paying attention to the road while the Autopilot’s “Autosteer” function is turned on. Those notifications will remind drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and pay attention to the road, according to a statement from NHTSA

So it's an update to give more alarms if youre not paying attention, like you should be because it's not a full self driving car. So basically for the dumb people who don't understand that the tech is limited and sleep while driving on the highway.

Regardless of the term, this should never have been approved for road use in the first place, so the authorities are at least at part to blame.

I believe in the EU some of these features never actually have been approved for road use. This (and the approval for the cyber truck due to pedestrian safety and reportedly excessive g forces in a full frontal crash) really surprised me considering the US is (was?) so safety conscious!

Still this is a recall, not an "upgdate" in automotive terms as it MUST be done for safety reasons, just because it is probably fixable by sw update doesn't not make it one. An "update" wouldn't be mandatory.

I have some software that can kill ppl if i messed up the coding, i wanna put it out in public and ask paying customers to test it in real life scenarios, you know, just to see if it works....cool, right?
