Michigan Cop Shatters Car Window After Driver Refuses To Give ID

I don't understand why people don't just cooperate with police. Want to fight the system? Fight it in court. Not cooperating with police is idiotic. Hand over your license, registration, and proof of insurance. OHHHHH, unless you can't. Of course this particular incident was turned into a race card situation which will go nowhere.

According to civil rights attorney Julia Kelly the first thing is to have a valid license, registration, and proof of insurance in your car. "Are you required to give it to them? Yes, no questions asked. Driving in Michigan is a privilege, not a right." The officer will likely leave you in your car and check your ID. But, if he or she asks you to get out of the car, Kelly says, you should comply. "If he asks you a lawful command to get out, you should obey those commands to get out of vehicle."

Taylor officers stopped a car driven by Calvin Jones, who traveling with his wife and a boy, and things got tense when Jones apparently declined to provide identification. In the video, Jones is heard saying, “You gotta let me know what’s going on, man,” to which an officer replies, “You’re going to jail is what’s going on.” As another officer puts on gloves, Jones asks, “For what?…On what charges?” That’s when the cop in the gloves pulls on the driver’s side window, breaking it. There is some yelling as Jones is dragged out of the car onto the ground and arrested. The officer who broke the window claims Jones was reaching for something between seats. Jones said he was just trying to unlock his seat belt.

Why can't he tell the guy what's going on? All he says is "investigatory stop". No wonder US cops have such a bad rep when you have aggressive dickweeds like this guy trying to intimidate people.

What did the guy do wrong though to be stopped? in the beginning he(the cop) was parked, saw a silver car and quickly drove up behind it..seemed a bit strange..

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures..."

Realizing the scope is somewhat different here, I feel like cops that just stop and request ID and pull over without cause are violating the spirit of the Constitution.

Driving is a privilege, not a right.  People always forget that part.  You must show your ID to the law enforcement upon request, no questions asked. Oh and you must get out of the car when asked as well. Not too hard.  Who wants to guess that he had warrants or had his license was suspended.

No way man. That was a "Repect muh authorita!" situation. Dude in car likely had no issues and was doing the "my rights" thing. First comment had it right - foolishness on both sides.

It really showcases how out of date the Constitution is.
