you might be right that at this point on the right there's a bit more space for auditing each other, they champion free speech & whatnot
there is a problem on "the left" though where it's being led by the nose by corporate whores & at lower level people just squabble about ideological purity & stuff, there's these super intolerant shitlibs who will try & cancel anyone.. mostly they take aim at the right but they also do purges, eg Jimmy Dore or Joe Rogan - these guys are actually what I'd call center-left & quite liberal but that doesn't stop the shitlibs from coming after them.
American politics is such a mess. Conservatives are just trying to preserve a slightly older form of liberalism while "liberals" are pushing for illiberalism a lot of the time. Both sides are far too partisan imo there's supposed to be a functioning middle ground but it's almost non-existent.
