Here, in this scene, they perfectly capture the shortsightedmess and retardation behind the 'trucker' protest that started in Ottawa and now has disbanded to other capitals. Adding little Stan with his hand over his face, even more ashamed for his dad than usual is a very nice touch.

If I remember right there was portal allowing people from the future to come in and they would work for pennies an hr as they could invest the money and 1000's of yrs later have millions. The govt didnt care because the corporations got cheap labor and more votes but everyone lost their jobs. So they figured out if they all turn gay then there would be no more future people coming to "tak r jobs!". More of an immigration thing.
