I wonder if that's why Joe went so hard after drugs. Found some crack in hunters room as a teenager and decided that making stiff consequences for it would get him off of it.
Kind of sad when I think about it like that. He was trying to save his boy.
No doubt Joe needs to go. But watching his degradation from the person he was, and possibly what he was trying to fight in those days humanizes him a bit.
I never thought I would feel that way. It's like watching his characters POV in Game of Thrones.

Yeah, doubt that very much, with a mother dying at the age of 2, raised by a step mother and a father who was a Senator, I doubt very much Joe had much to do in his sons life. He would have been 11 when Jill and Joe had their daughter, leaving Hunter to fight for attention from a step mom(who never adopted the two boys from joe's previous marrage) and an absentee father. Combined with living a life of privledge, sent off to a private catholic boarding school, its recipe for a drug addict. Joe wouldnt have even been living with Hunter during his formative years and Joe made this speech in 1993 making Hunter 23 at the time.
