I'm biased towards most things 40k, but this guys voice gets grating after a bit.

^^ Yeah, my room mate feels the same way about the narrator. One thing we appreciate is that we get every detail and he can at least speak clearly. A couple other guys are good loremasters but they sound like the have speech impediments.

I am considering doing an army of them later. My only concern is that they don't seem to have a ton of models. But they the do have unfettered access to the imperium codex for fire support.

Been keeping my eyes peeled for a used shadowsword tank I can strip for them. And yes, Their horses are galloping piles of muscle and hate. With rebreathers. Cause rebreathers make everything scary.

I hear ya man. Once I finished reading the 'Gaunts Ghosts' series. I felt/wanted to make an imperial guard army (got space marines, enough to field 1/2 an Armageddon sized army, not all painted.....to my shame).

Dont forget to r-r-r-roll your 'r's

Someone from HBO should read it an make a series out of it. Because Dan Abnett writes some pretty damn good stuff, and with detail as well.

edit: if I remember right, the Gaunts ghosts get billeted (or fight alongside , been awhile can't remember) the Death Korps Of Krieg. Fun happy bunch.

I havent heard of that force before, I'll check into it.

They must be pretty fantical to get along with DKOK. Obviously they'll fight where told and with who, But non DKOK don't like spending extended periods with them due to their morose nature. Mortarion Ironguard to my knowledge are the only ones to actually enjoy their company off field.

Mainly because Ironguard are trained to be fine with anything except losing face. While DKOK appreciate their discipline and dedication.

Yeah. As I remember the 'Ghosts' are eating at a mess hall on a ship (I think) between campaigns and the DGOK come marching into the mess hall all semi parade like without saying a word, and sit down.

Due to the mess halls size (and the size of the two companies) they end up sitting next to one another. Now here's where it gets interesting. Because these two different armies look completely different. With the DGOK with their strict regimental doctrine and sharp isn lookin uniforms.

And the Gaunts Ghosts on the other hand lookin like barbarians in comparison, coming from an Agri world of 'Tanith' (if or when you read the books, which I highly recommend btw. You'll be reading/hearing that name quite a bit) and being stealth specialists, the lot of em. Have facial and arm tats and barely have set standard of uniform due to their need to blend into each environment they come across.

As I remember. They got along relatively well. As in , no fighting in the mess hall. But it nearly sparks off when a GG is having a chat with DGOK about their gear, mentioning about his type of las gun he's using (a more powerful type by way of each shot pretty much being a 'hotshot', but this means they get less shots off before having to change clips over) and the GG mentions so thing along the lines of 'oh wow, that's an awesome lasgun you got right there. Can I have it when your dead?'

All the DGOK sitting around and those listening in immediately stop what they're doing/eating and death stare the GG who made that comment.. The one jumps up from his seat and yells at the GG something along the lines of 'The equipment of the DGOK is for the DGOK and its quartermasters!' With clenched fists.

So yeah. Death Guard are a fun lot.

That sounds exactly like something the Deathkorps would freak about.

They have a rank that is designated for two things. Mercy killing those that will no longer be able to serve and recovering their gear.

The only sense of humor they have is in the face of the horrors of battle due to their psychoactive conditioning since children. Everything else is serious business.

They lift their masks to eat, and live with them on lest they be shamed by their comrades.

They have launched bombardments of 10's of thousands of cannons that lasted monthes straight with such ferocity that the gunners bones would gradually shake apart from the vibrations.

During large egagaments of attrition such as the 17 year war on Vraks. They all changed their names to numbers. to expediate death tallying and manpower inventory. (Think of ALL of  the biggest battles of WWI with defenders having star systems worth of stockpiled ordinance and the leadership of about 2500 Chaos astartes.) Even the top commanders who were heroes in the own right, would die and be remembered  as "colonel 266" etc. Final estimates of Krieg Casualities were some 14 million vs about 8-9 million defenders.

Great campaign btw, but HEAVY research. Arch has a video series on Vraks totalling over 50 hours. It's also one of the few stories where the heroes are BREAKING IN to the keep instead of defending it.

Also just a helpful primer without going full nerd on you. (Looks at previous discussion.) Since I'm already 95% of way there.

Deathkorps = Imperium

DeathWatch = Adeptus Astrtes Chapter

DeathGuard = Chaos Plague Marines of Nurgle

It gets confusing when everything in the series is named after mortality and suffering.

You can read about the "Siege of Vraks"  here. It crushes about 50 hours of listening into about 2 of reading. Though Arch's presentation is far more detailed of course.
