You weren't listening very closely fascism is easily rooted in authoritarianism. It's a direct derivative. He was claiming that in fascism the fiction is inchoate from the beginning of campaigning for power.
He is 100% right (at least historically). If you look at Hitler and Mussolini and how they rose to power. Both were almost socialistic (Musilini-Italian Socialist Party/ - Hitler National Socialist Party) platforms only to replace any forms of democracy with auhoritarianism.

All politics starts with the fiction of 'I deserve more'. Then you move to the fictions that motivate people like love, loyalty, family, environment, etc. The different potential meanings we attribute meaning to that are usually utterly fictitious. That is to say fictitious starting points in politics isn't a fascist invention. It's basic politics. A wholly green(pollution free) world is a fiction but nobody would seriously argue that the green parties of the world are fascists right?
Ok guy, what is truth then? It is true that Trump seems to be a buffoon in business yet it is also true that he seems to be worth a billion or something. So what is 'truth' then?
*eyeroll* What you do matters more than at other times eh? How about the great depression? The world wars? The civil war? The independence war? But sure, this is the most important moment in US history so go and vote for your local party hack and see how the system stays the same.
Yeah all those things you 'know' about Russian influence are still under investigation aren't they? But sure lets say that foreign money is bad. Then you Americans have a huge problem on your hands because you will be hard pressed to find a canditate that isn't receiving foreign money. Also, what type of foreign money is bad? The kind that gets you elected or the kind that forces your hand? So money from and to Israel is bad? Money to and from Saudi Arabia is bad? How about Pakistan? China? Or indeed Russia?
