Political Correctness Debate feat. JBP

Skeptoid posted the highlights. I liked how JP fawned over Stephen Fry post-debate. (1:56:30)

The fact that the pro-PC side spent so much effort trying to defame JP based on a deceptively-edited Vice interview says a lot. They didn't seem interested in discussing the topic but rather to win the crowd over by any means necessary.

There was a big fallout on the interwebs about the racial comments from Dyson. The best breakdown of Dyson's word salad I've seen is this video:

(although I think OP missed the flimsy point Dyson was making about context)

"They didn't seem interested in discussing the topic but rather to win the crowd over by any means necessary."

That is the typical SJW / feminist fashion, put feelings over reason.

or to equate feelings with facts? the whole movement seems heavily influenced by post modernism, "if you feel it then it is".

No lie, one of my buddies isn't a rabid SJW, but he bit the post-modernity, critical theory bug. Dude loves European philosophy and speaks fluent French.

I had to unfriend him after he started going off about the wonders of hedonism (in explicit detail) while we were eating at a family restaurant. Kids were around, he didn't care. I had to "dude, I'm eating here" to get him to shut up. They are an eccentric bunch.

Dyson's word soup tastes awful.

Good enough to spend two hours listening to people not progress much anywhere regarding the topic. But that seems to be the standard everywhere where the 'next step' for humanity is pondered. In our haste to progress we forget that which was and still is good.

The official result of the debate was that Fry/Peterson won. Before the debate the crowd were 60% in favour of Fry/Peterson's argument and afterwards that number grew by 6%.

It may not seem like progress was made but this debate was watched online by millions so likely has had an impact, even if the discussion itself seemed not to get anywhere.

Yeah. Maybe having these kinds of conversations is enough to stop the media from giving 3rd gen feminism a platform just like 'having a conversation ' about fascism stopped them from doing that for Odin and the like. It might happen.
