IBM Simon Phone - CHI 2011

IBM's Simon Personal Communicator packed a touchscreen, email capability and more, paving the way for our modern-day wondergadgets. Originally code-named “Angler” and was unveiled at the fall COMDEX convention in Vegas in 1992, but wouldn’t be available to purchase by consumers until August 16, 1994, retailing for $1,100.

The Simon was only on the market for 6 months & sold 50,000 units. The battery life was ~1 hour.
