this logical fallacy has a name - fallacy of composition.
"academia" isn't a single thing. some journals are questionable some of the time, that doesn't mean academia in general or science in general has a problem. the same as a few schools having a problem doesn't mean the rest are bad, or some politicians being bad doesn't mean the whole party is worthless.

I think the point they're making is this little band of nutcases is actually successfully suppressing hard science studies and facts not just in the classroom but across all of Academia. So as small as these idiots may be they have an enormously powerful voice wouldn't you say? All you need to be that powerful is to be committed to doing whatever it is you need to do and saying whatever it is you need to say to acquire power for your tribe.
