General Soleimani had travelled to Iraq on a diplomatic passport at the invitation of the Iraqi Prime Minister to continue a de-escelation talks with the Saudis. He was not there to target the US at all. It was a political assassination inside a country allied to the US. [link]
His martyrdom has activated the entire "axis of resistance". They do not follow orders from Iran & Iran does not ask anything from them [link]. Even neutral actors like the Mahdi Army have reactivated to resist US presence [link].

The only countries Trump called to give advance warning of the assassination were Israel and Saudi Arabia. Neither of them are expected to help with the upcoming conflict. IMO only UK and Australia will help America with this one.

There was a letter drafted by someone in the US military in Iraq but I don't think it was sent (it wasn't signed & contained typos). That was a strange development, why it was leaked is anyone's guess.
There's no doubt a lot of arm twisting going on right now, especially between US & Iraq but also within various departments of US establishment. The neocons have the advantage but the DoD will be trying to push back. The leak could have been a DoD psyop.
UK & Germany are both pulling out some troops. UK has pulled out all diplomatic staff from Iraq & Iran. US is reinforcing Iraq & Syria. Some oil companies are pulling their staff out of Iraq. PMUs are meeting to discuss strategy. Kataib Hezbollah are threatening US bases. Iran has declared every part of the US military apparatus a terrorist organisation lol.
